Average retirement age today is 57.5 years. 76 million Baby Boomers will retire over the next 20
years. Researchers at A USA Today report indicates that Baby Boomers are
planning to do meaningful volunteer work as they retire. . 2005 survey suggests people who plan to continue to work
into their retirement years say they want jobs that give back to their
communities.—Consumer Reports on Health - April 2006: Statistics predict that the average 60-year old will
live to about age 83 and many will survive into their 90’s. Most people can
expect to be retired for about 30 years. Researchers are finding that people are looking ahead to
retirement with two major concerns – good health and meaningful lives. Retirees who remain engaged by volunteering, learning or
working (more relaxed pace) maintain better emotional, cognitive and physical
